Social Emotional Spotlight–Sam’s Tips: Model By Example
Lately I’ve noticed an uptick in the sassy tone my 3 year old speaks to me. Of course, this is age appropriate in many ways, but I also know that my tone plays a role in this too. When we are running late or I’ve asked her multiple times to do something, my tone instinctively begins to change and sounds annoyed or frustrated. I don’t consider that I’m modeling the exact tone that I tell her she can’t do. This is the most important time to model that, even during frustrating times, you can still use a kind and respectful tone. I know I’ll never be perfect, but I can try to be more intentional about how I speak around her.
